Young Writer’s Development Program
Be Part Of Our First Creative Writing Publication!
Come and give yourself the time and space to think, write and get your work into our very first publication.
If you’re a keen writer aged 9-14 this StoryLab program gives you the chance to develop and refine your writing voice and become a more rounded storyteller.
The program offers support, motivation and guidance from award winning author, Deb Fitzpatrick, as well as your fellow writers within the group.
StoryLab sessions will stretch and challenge your imagination as well as helping you understand writing as a craft; giving you tips on perfecting your style, editing your work and improving the flow of your story.
Participants will be expected to work on developing their pieces of writing between attending the sessions.
Session 1: Thursday 26 April, 9am-12pm
Focus: Getting to know one another, generating ideas and beginning to map out our stories.
Session 2: Thursday 24 May, 3:45-5:30pm
Focus: Finishing first draft of your piece with lots more writing time and handy writing tips from Deb.
Between Sessions 2 & 3 participants will be asked to prepare some feedback on pieces written by other members of the group, about the writing’s strengths and the areas for potential improvement and development. This will be shared at Session 3 and will provide the basis for our workshopping, reviewing and editing phase.
Session 3: Thursday 21 June, 3:45-5:30pm
Focus: Workshopping, feedback and review + special guest from the world of publishing to pass on some tricks of the trade!
Session 4: Thursday 12 July, 9-11am
Focus: Last opportunity for final editing and rewriting; these versions will be typed up and entered into our very first StoryLab Young Writer’s Anthology.
